Caandides – newsletter 2013 version

January 30, 2013

Done with the scanner newsletters (that you can see here), with the new year comes a new series.

It’s not that we didn’t like the previous newsletters, but rather we thought that it was time to change. We have decided to work with photos (taken by caandides themselves) on which the main topic is literally framed by the practical informations. As we found it hard to put type on an image in an interesting way we decided to think about the words as graphics ornaments and use them as means to highlight the photo. Because we’re working on a series, the principle that we would choose needed to be adaptable to any kind of photos and to create a dialogue with the image, hence the type-frame. Moreover, since the amount of informations will vary depending on the events, each frame will systematically change in shape and lenght.

So far the photos were not taken for a particular purpose. We picked them from our personal archives because of the amusing, surprising or intriguing situation they depict. Another tool we can play with is the caandides creature-logo that interacts with the subject, and will act as a link throughout the whole series. Finally, we kept the square format to remind of the cds covers. This is all done in collaboration with Gabriel Wéber.

Below is the chosen ‘beta’ version ☟
