CAANDIDES WINTER IX
September 16, 2013Caandides before the art EP /more photos
November 11, 2012⇞ Back (left) and front (right) of the cd (more infos here) ; there are no informations but the band’s name and the initials of the title.
⇟ Close-ups of the halfttones ; this series is printed on a laser, therefore the pattern is slightly 3D (a bit like a screenprint).
⇟ The sleeve opens at the top (these types of sleeves usually open like this), inside there is a cd wrapped in a 4 pages booklet (I am not even sure I can call that a booklet since its more like a spread).
⇟ The artwork on the actual disc is a variation of the sleeve’s black pattern with bigger dots.
⇟ The booklet/spread comes in several colours (it depends on your luck when buying the cd), it includes the set list on one side and a photo on the other.
⇟ On the central spread there are Before the art’s lyrics -and awesome (and not random) fact, it looks like mountains seen sideways (second image below).
⇟ You can listen to the music on Deezer and Bandcamp (with the old artwork).

⇟ This is the first Before the art cd in an envelope format, the current design is a mix of both the artwork you can see on the bandcamp and the black and white halftoned version below.
⇟ So far, there are two others envelope cds half-a-beat 1 (made in 2010, it’s the green one) and half-a-beat 0 (made in 2011, the one with the hand), they both use halftones and a give a low-fi feel. Everything is hand-made by the whole of Caandides with love.

** update
I thought I’ll add few words about the design. We thought it as a contemplative landscape (that was for the initial visual -see here) that we then modified in order to connote and relate to the previous releases (here). I have called it a landscape but actually, it is as much an abstract pattern as it can be seen as a figurative illustration. We chose a minimalistic and elegant typesetting which discretion puts the emphasis on the visual and invite to dive into it.

Caandides variations _new layer
March 14, 2012NEON-CMYK
March 6, 2012As I explained earlier (see here), I reproduced one of my prints with the CMYK technique, using both process and fluorescent inks.
—
In the first place I ran ink tests to make sure each layer would overlap properly

▴ both fluo inks tests

▴ This is the print that I used for my experimentations

This is really yellow, so I might change the transparency of the yellow ink for the next prints. I find yellow really hard to get because both cyan and magenta are equal in terms of intensity but because yellow is really light I am always afraid to make it too transparent.
—
Next are the fluo and mixed versions… (please note that these are scans, therefore the rendition of the fluorescent colours is not true to the reality). I’ll use the following abreviations for the colours, fluorescent blue: B, fluorescent pink: P, fluorescent yellow: Yf, and I’ll keep C for cyan, M for magenta, Y for yellow and K for black.
The registration of the print isn’t really succesful, especially were there are fluo colours.
